The Army Searches for a Guerrilla Group in Peru's Jungle
The Peruvian Army, together with combined police forces, has been carrying out since yesterday morning a tight siege of a contingent of more than 80 guerrillas who held the jungle town of Juanjui, located 700 kilometers northeast of Lima, for five hours. The attackers, allegedly members of the Marxist-Leninist clandestine group Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru (MRTA), attacked Juanjui around four o'clock in the early hours of yesterday morning, local time, and remained there until nine in the morning.
