Massacre in the Peruvian Andes
An independent commission publishes its findings on the murder of eight journalists. Nearly four months after the murder of eight Peruvian journalists in the Andean department of Ayacucho, where the Maoist guerrilla movement Sendero Luminoso operates, none of those responsible for the act have been detained or prosecuted. An independent investigative commission, chaired by the prestigious writer Mario Vargas Llosa, has just made public the results of its inquiry into this multiple crime. The report also constitutes a very clear warning call to Peruvian democracy.
