AUTOBIOGRAPHY

MARIA ELENA MOYANO, a Peruvian social activist, neighborhood leader, and feminist, was murdered in Lima, Peru by an assassination squad of the terrorist group Sendero Luminoso on February 15, 1992, at the age of 33. She was the mother of two children aged 10 and 8. At a time when the country was engulfed in war, one of the voices that rose up against the terror of Sendero Luminoso, in the fight against poverty, and in defense of human rights was that of María Elena. Maria Elena Moyano has remained in the hearts of all women and men as a symbol of the struggle for peace.
