Roundtable: "Women, Human Rights and Gender Exclusion in Peru, Forced Sterilizations"

In Peru, during the second government of Alberto Fujimori (1995-2000), a birth control plan was implemented targeting the poorest sectors of the population. More than 300,000 rural, peasant, and indigenous women were sterilized. The Plataforma Q'atary Perú has been coordinating with public and private entities working in favor of human rights and gender equality both in Peru and in Catalonia, in order to make visible and denounce these practices that violate women's rights; to achieve international solidarity; and to join the advocacy and pressure actions that women and organizations in Peru continue to carry out with the aim of seeking justice and sanctioning those responsible.
