Andean Peasantry and Violence: A Decade of Studies
A review of agrarian bibliography from before and after 1980, when Sendero Luminoso began its subversive activities, leading the author to conclude that in 2001 "we are still far from having developed a theory that is relevant to understanding the phenomenon and influencing the course of the war, contributing to the design of a democratic pacification strategy." The work consists of the following chapters: 1. Peasant movements and violence 2. Violence in the Andes: pachacuti or chawqa? 3. Social research and violence: besieging the new Leviathan 4. Questions, debates, and future studies.
