The Cursed Inheritance
Like almost all dictatorships, the one that Fujimori and Montesinos installed in Peru in 1992, in collusion with a clique of treacherous military officers, ends in disgrace, farce, and chaos. Although — from the electoral fraud of April to extend the authoritarian regime until 2005, and the formidable wave of protest it provoked (its climax being La Marcha de los Cuatro Suyos) — it was foreseeable that the illegitimate government would not last, few could have imagined that its unraveling would be so imminent and grotesque.
