Violence Against Women from Ayacucho During Peru's Internal Armed Conflict
Summary of a comprehensive investigation into the use of rape and violence against women as a weapon of war in the Peruvian conflict. With abundant testimony, the author argues that it was a massive, silent, and unreported phenomenon, as it involved primarily actions by members of the Peruvian army. According to the data obtained, these were events of a frequency and severity even greater than those of the wars in the Balkans or Rwanda. The work analyzes the psychosocial implications and makes recommendations for action in other contexts.
