Lika Mutal "The Eye That Cries"

In 2003, sculptor Lika Mutal began creating an interactive work of art in memory of the victims of terrorism. The creation of the work, called "El ojo que llora" (The Eye That Cries), was supported by the Municipalidad de Jesús María, the private sector, the embassies of Germany and the Netherlands, anonymous friends, architect Luis Longhi, and volunteers who inscribed the 27,000 names of registered victims onto river stones. The construction of the monument also received sponsorship from the Defensoría del Pueblo, Idehpuc, the Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos, the civic movement "Para que no se repita" (So It Won't Happen Again), and Salomón Lerner Febres, former president of the CVR. The memorial "El Ojo que Llora" was inaugurated on August 28, 2005 in the Campo de Marte in Lima as part of the Alameda de la Memoria project, commemorating the second anniversary of the presentation of the Final Report of the Comisión de la Verdad y de la Reconciliación.
