Serial Terror
The past is still making waves, but television has already decided to package it into a six-episode miniseries. The idea originated at América and its execution got ahead of the projects that John Malkovich is working on in Hollywood, based on Nicholas Shakespeare's novel "The Dancer Upstairs," which Luis Llosa has had on his shelf, and ahead of the synopses of other silent screenwriters captivated by the story of the dancer whose steps led to the monster's lair. However, it is not reckless haste that defines "La captura del siglo." Director Cusi Barrio and screenwriter Miguel Rubio del Valle opted for an oblique approach to the "Cachetón" affair — the military code name alluding to the SL leader. The protagonists are not the Shining Path members Abimael Guzmán or Maritza Garrido Lecca, nor General Ketín Vidal; rather they are the anonymous members of GEIN (Grupo Especial de Inteligencia) who, after a three-year surveillance operation, located Guzmán.
