Shining Path Behind Lima's "Iron Belt"

Sendero Luminoso is attempting to forcibly dominate the poor neighborhoods surrounding Lima in order to turn them into links in an "iron belt" that seeks to encircle and isolate the capital, twelve years after launching a Maoist-style "people's war" in Peru. This "tactic" has so far claimed the lives of at least one hundred community leaders, men and women alike, cruelly murdered for opposing the designs of the fanatical subversive group, forming part of the 25,000 deaths caused by terrorist violence in the country.
