The Tragedy of Lucanamarca
On April 3, 1983, "Presidente Gonzalo" ordered his followers to make an example of the Ayacuchan town of Santiago de Lucanamarca. That day, the terrorists killed sixty-nine people with axes, among them twenty children. The Truth Commission has exhumed the bodies with the aim of judicially identifying those responsible and returning them to their next of kin. Published on January 8, 2003.
