5,001 Displaced Persons Have Been Registered and Accredited by MIMDES

The National Registry for Displaced Persons currently comprises 5,001 displaced persons who are in the process of resettlement in the cities of Huancayo, Lima, Ica, Puno, Ayacucho, and Apurímac — people who were forced by violence to leave their Andean and/or Amazonian communities and move to cities in search of refuge. This population, whose mother tongue is predominantly a language other than Spanish — Quechua and Asháninka — overcame communication barriers and put into practice various strategies for integration into urban life.
