Understanding Shining Path
The nature of the Peruvian subversive phenomenon, despite the six years that have passed since the day Sendero decided to take up arms, remains insufficiently understood. The texts that form part of this special feature aim to do nothing other than provide new elements reinforcing earlier statements made in Quehacer to the effect that the struggle undertaken by Guzmán's men is fundamentally and centrally political. Contributing to this as well is the interview with prominent national anthropologist Luis Lumbreras, who, for the first time, spoke at length about Ayacucho, the Andean world, Sendero Luminoso, and its leader, "Comrade Gonzalo."
