Dog Shepherd

Domingo de Ramos is one of the most controversial voices in contemporary Peruvian poetry. His particular use of the lumpenesque voice of the marginal urban world of Lima is perfect for addressing a reality like that of the years of political violence and internal war experienced in Peru over two decades. In that sense, the verses of this collection allude both to the effects of that violence — such as blackouts, car bombs, murders, and extrajudicial executions — and to that underground world made up of drug addicts, pasteleros, and vagabonds who rummage through the trash containers on the streets of Lima in the 1980s and 1990s.
