Religious People in Times of Violence in Peru: Chronicle and Theory of Non-Violence
This publication presents some of the activities of religious workers in Peru during the years 1980 to 1992. The text has two approaches. The first part is a chronicle of popular missions to the "emergency zones" with their respective evaluations. The second part explains the theory of Christian spirituality of non-violence that formed the basis of seven retreats/gatherings with religious men and women. This book was not written simply because of the political situation of recent years. Our country is in search of democratic renewal, justice, truth, human rights, and a recovery of our authentic history. In a word: in search of national reconciliation. A chronicle of the activities of religious men and women in that era of Peru has its own purposes and its own justifications. It constitutes the history of a Christian consciousness brought up to date in moments of conflict. It is a history embedded and incarnated in a critical moment in Peru. (Excerpt from the foreword).
