To Remember. The Internal Armed Conflict in Piura 1980-2000
The results of the work carried out over a year here in Piura have not simply been a matter of collecting and transcribing what we came across. It has been an arduous and patient labor of finding our past, listening to the victims, and coming to know the truth. Many times the truth is sought to be hidden, but it finds its own way and inspires new commitments in favor of justice and peace. The recovery of the memory of the violent times we suffered in Peru — in this case, Piura — makes possible the voice of the victims, so often silenced by fear. That "cry of the people," born from the countless victims, reaches God and travels the world showing the cruelty of the internal armed conflict endured in this land, and has inspired valuable initiatives in our country and in sister countries. The demand is that in Peru "never again shall the lives of the innocent, nor of any human being, be threatened." That what is denounced in nine volumes shall not be repeated. Peace and reconciliation are sought, with truth leading the way. (Excerpt from the introduction).
