Incense and Broom
The mission of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary in Huancapi began during the harshest years of terrorism in our Peru. As is well known, its cradle was the university and the department of Ayacucho. As the author of this chronicle aptly expresses, she agreed to support that Mission as a physician at the request of the sisters — in particular, Sister Ana Victoria Pella, whom she frequently mentions throughout the text. This Missionary Sister in Huancapi, at that time and despite her age, worked with great dedication for the benefit of the poor and the sick, a role she shared with other sisters who are also mentioned. Dr. Raquel was asked to provide her professional pediatric services, but as will become clear throughout the reading, she gave much more. (Excerpt from the preface).
