Shining Path. Subversion and Counter-Subversion. History and Tragedy

The book, divided into two parts, offers a counterinsurgency and military forces perspective. The author, Army Colonel Teodoro Hidalgo Morey, details, from his military viewpoint, the origins of the subversive group led by Abimael Guzmán Reynoso. He also seeks to establish the similarities and differences between Maoist philosophy and that of Sendero Luminoso. He contrasts the strategy of Abimael Guzmán's followers with military strategy, explains the ideological foundation of Sendero Luminoso, the context in which it arose, and how it adapted Peruvian reality to Mao's concept of prolonged war. He also explains the strategic planning, the Gonzalo thought, and the armed struggle process. As well as the non-military strategy: political, economic, and psychosocial.
