The Events of the Alto Huallaga. March, April-May, 1994. Challhuayacu, Chavín de Pariarca, Cayumba Chico, Moyuna and Moena
The Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos presents to public opinion the report on the most recent events that occurred in the Alto Huallaga region. Human rights violations in that area have been the subject of a public debate that the national public is aware of. In this report we could have engaged in presenting a partisan brief responding to the multiple and unjust attacks received for telling the truth. We preferred to recount the facts as they occurred. Drawing on direct and indirect sources — all of them public and known — we have compiled the chronology of the events that occurred in the months of March, April and May 1994. We also publish the testimonies of family members, survivors and witnesses; conclusions drawn directly and exclusively from these facts and the testimonies complete the report. We see the necessity of producing this report taking into account the multiple difficulties encountered in being able to disseminate the reality of what occurred and thus ensure that justice and truth prevail in our homeland.
