From the Earth the Truth Sprang: Crime and Impunity in the La Cantuta Case
This publication by APRODEH — Asociación Pro Derechos Humanos — reconstructs the process of the crime and of impunity. The case is not closed. Not only because of the extremely serious procedural defects and legal aberrations it carries; not only because the legal actions of the victims' families and human rights organizations continue in Peru and in international forums; not only because there are still Cantuta students imprisoned for demanding justice for the murdered. APRODEH is convinced that the clarification of this case would bring to light the material and intellectual authorship of a large portion of the crimes that in the name of the anti-subversive struggle have gone unpunished in recent years. By sanctioning those materially and intellectually responsible, significant progress would be made toward ending the dirty war that causes so much material and moral harm to the country. In this work, what is clear is that the struggle against impunity is crucial in the effort to build a just and democratic social order.
