A Sign of Hope
"The purpose of this work is to show, even if briefly, to young people in formation the broad fields of mission that await them; the paths along which they will have to travel back and forth, and the models they will need to draw upon in order to reach and fulfill their objectives. It is also important to highlight the advantage of working as a group, united as a church." This is how Father Guillermo Álvarez, O.P., expresses the objective of his book which, under the title "Un signo de esperanza," captures through an engaging and fluid narrative — with a strong testimonial character — the chronicle of the missions in Ayacucho carried out in 1986 and 1987. These missions, organized by the Conferencia de Religiosos del Perú, brought together priests, male and female religious from various congregations in teams, in a deeply significant ecclesial and evangelizing experience. We must not forget that for many years the department of Ayacucho was brutally battered by the demented terrorism of Sendero Luminoso and the indiscriminate repression of the armed forces.
