Peru... 13 Years of Disgrace
The book is organized in four chapters, addressing the subject from the general to the particular, in order to guide the reader in an orderly manner through history up to the present moment. Chapter I attempts to paint, in a generic fashion, the subversive processes in the world, touching on aspects of international terrorism in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, then in the Americas, before arriving at Peru's own problem. Chapter II addresses the subversive phenomenon in present-day Peru, analyzing the doctrine, development achieved, and consequences of the armed struggle of the PCP-SL, the MRTA, and other less relevant groups; this chapter is the raison d'être of the book. Some articles by SL and MRTA, previously unpublished, are also included. Chapter III, in essay form, coldly analyzes the main causes and consequences of the complex process that subversion has undergone from its beginnings to the present, as well as the disastrous results produced by the violence — that is, the phenomenon of the figures of human and material losses and the reason why Peru suffered 13 years of opprobrium. Chapter IV proposes some alternative solutions to the problem generated by subversion and particularizes cases that occurred in the struggle against Shining Path and MRTA militants.
