The Sites of Memory. Social Processes of Commemoration in Peru

This publication presents the results of research on local experiences of memory of violence, carried out by the Instituto de Democracia y Derechos Humanos de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (IDEHPUCP) with the generous support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The general purpose of this research was to contribute, through the production of knowledge, to strengthening the process of commemorating the violence that took place during the past internal armed conflict (1980–2000), a process that has been spreading to different parts of the country in recent years and whose vitality is expressed in a diversity of initiatives in numerous localities. An annex to this publication presents a list of memory sites, with information gathered almost entirely by the citizen movement Para que no se Repita. (Excerpt from the introduction).
