Pilar Coll, pillar of life. Report.
A tribute to the life and work of Pilar Coll Torrente, who passed away on September 15, 2012, in Lima. Pilar Coll was a Spanish-born lawyer who came to Peru in 1967 to work with university students in Trujillo, and later became the first executive secretary of the Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos. Pilar Coll was an exemplary defender of human rights and was recognized for this with the "Defensoría del Pueblo 2008" medal. She was also a member of the Consejo de Reparaciones (Peru), the body responsible for the complex task of certifying victims of the internal armed conflict that Peru experienced between 1980 and 2000, and incorporating them into the Registro Único de Víctimas. She shared her time with inmates of various prisons, bringing a message of hope in the face of indifference and imprisonment.
