The Lieutenants' War. Memories of the War with Shining Path

While the country was sinking into one of the worst economic crises in its history due to an incompetent government, Sendero Luminoso, the Maoist group, tried to impose its rule in the most impoverished and remote regions of the country. The inability of the state to confront this meant that little by little the fight against subversion, which should have been comprehensive, was delegated to the army and then to young officers who were never trained according to the new circumstances — them, and the last line of defense of the country made up of armed peasants who fought desperately for their lives, knowing they would be the first to suffer Sendero's revenge.
