A girl carries a photo of Melissa Alfaro at her funeral

A girl carries a photo of Melissa Alfaro at her funeral. On October 10, 1991, Melissa Alfaro, head of the information department of the magazine Cambio, died as a result of the explosion of a letter bomb addressed to Carlos Arroyo, the director of that weekly publication, which was identified as a media outlet sympathetic to the MRTA. The Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación concludes that the Military Intelligence Operational Team bears presumed responsibility for the attack.
