Remains of the Policía Nacional personnel directorate in the district of Rímac, which was attacked by a subversive group in May 1992. From the late 1980s onward, the period of violence began to intensify in the capital city. The Sendero Luminoso offensive meant that Lima endured daily blackouts, selective assassinations, and car bombings.
