Surrender of inmates at Castro Castro prison

Surrender of inmates at Castro Castro prison following the police raid carried out to suppress the Shining Path mutiny, staged in protest against Operation "Mudanza Uno," whose objective was to transfer one hundred women detained for terrorism from Castro Castro prison to the Chorrillos women's prison. The Castro Castro inmates rioted on May 9, 1992, and the government of Alberto Fujimori ordered the mutiny suppressed. Forty-two inmates died. Some were extrajudicially executed after having surrendered. During the events, senior Sendero Luminoso leaders died, including Hugo Deodato Juárez Cruzatt, Yovanka Pardavé Trujillo, Tito Valle Travesaño, and Elvia Sanabria Pacheco.
