Relatives of Castro Castro prison inmates wait outside the penitentiary during "Operation Mudanza Uno"

Relatives of inmates at Castro Castro prison wait outside the facility during Operation "Mudanza Uno," launched on May 9, 1992, with the objective of transferring one hundred women detained for terrorism from Castro Castro prison to the Chorrillos women's prison. The inmates at Castro Castro rioted, and the government of Alberto Fujimori ordered the mutiny suppressed. Forty-two inmates died. Some were extrajudicially executed after having surrendered. During the events, senior Sendero Luminoso leaders died, including Hugo Deodato Juárez Cruzatt, Yovanka Pardavé Trujillo, Tito Valle Travesaño, and Elvia Sanabria Pacheco.
