Presentation of Lucero Cumpa, MRTA leader, at the Base Naval del Callao in December 1996. She had escaped in 1991 and had been recaptured in Tarapoto in May 1993. She was sentenced to life imprisonment. The MRTA members who seized the Japanese ambassador's residence in 1996 demanded her release and that of her comrades in exchange for the hostages' freedom.
