Funeral procession of the journalists murdered at Uchuraccay

Funeral procession for the journalists killed in Uchuraccay, proclaimed "Martyrs of Peruvian Journalism." Jorge Sedano, Willy Retto, José Luis Mendívil, Eduardo de la Piniella, Pedro Sánchez, and Amador García were buried in Lima; Antonio Infante and Félix Gavilán were buried in Ayacucho. The eight journalists had traveled to the highlands of Huanta, along with guide Juan Argumedo, to verify the execution of seven alleged Sendero Luminoso members when they were surprised by peasants from Uchuraccay, who murdered them on January 26, 1983. Guide Juan Argumedo and community member Severino Morales Ccente were also killed. The journalists were buried in graves located in the outskirts of the town.
