Shining Path supreme leader Abimael Guzmán Reinoso is presented to the press
Sendero Luminoso's top leader Abimael Guzmán Reinoso is presented to the national and international press in the courtyard of the Dirección Nacional Contra el Terrorismo (DINCOTE) on September 24, 1992, twelve days after his capture by members of the Grupo Especial de Inteligencia Nacional (GEIN). His prisoner number was 1509, in homage to National Police Day. During his presentation, Guzmán delivered a speech urging Senderistas to continue the popular war.
