Relatives of Pascuala Rosado mourn her death during her funeral
Relatives of Pascuala Rosado, leader of the self-managed community of Huaycán, in the Lima district of Ate Vitarte, weep over her death during her burial the day after Sendero Luminoso members assassinated her and dynamited her body on March 6, 1996, as they had previously done to leader María Elena Moyano. Despite having only a primary education, Rosado had actively participated in the social life of her community, training herself until she became a health promoter and then secretary general of the neighborhood organization of "zone A" of Huaycán. In May 1991 she was elected president of the new governing board of her locality and expressed her rejection of Sendero's infiltration in various neighborhood organizations. In 1993 she petitioned police and military authorities for the creation of urban self-defense patrols in her locality.
