Surrender of inmates at Castro Castro prison

Surrender of Castro Castro prison inmates following the police operation to quell the Sendero Luminoso riot in protest against Operation "Mudanza Uno," whose objective was to transfer one hundred women detained for the crime of terrorism from Castro Castro prison to the Chorrillos prison. Castro Castro inmates rioted on May 9, 1992, and the government of Alberto Fujimori ordered the riot suppressed. 42 inmates died. Some of them were extrajudicially executed after having surrendered. During the events, senior Sendero Luminoso leaders perished, including Hugo Deodato Juárez Cruzatt, Yovanka Pardavé Trujillo, Tito Valle Travesaño, and Elvia Sanabria Pacheco.
