A car bomb containing 150 kilograms of dynamite left the Carmen de la Legua police station in Callao, Lima in ruins on May 9, 1992. Since the late 1980s, the internal armed conflict had begun to intensify in the city of Lima. The Sendero Luminoso offensive meant that the capital endured daily blackouts, targeted killings, and car bombings.
