MRTA takes Juanjui with death of police lieutenant Jorge Cieza
The emerretista column, integrated by 60 men, took the city of Juanjui in the political-military campaign Túpac Amaru liberator. The subversive forces simultaneously attacked the posts of the Investigation Police, the Civil Guard and the Republican Guard, and took the small airport. During the attack on the police post Jorge Cieza, lieutenant of the Civil Guard, was killed. The other policemen fled and only three surrendered.
