Kidnapping of journalists by MRTA
MRTA members kidnapped two journalists from Channel 2 (Vicky Pelaez and her cameraman) on December 8, 1984, forcing them to report on MRTA's differences with Shining Path before releasing them.
On December 8, 1984, members of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) kidnapped two journalists from Channel 2: Vicky Pelaez and her cameraman. During the kidnapping, the journalists were forced to do a report in which MRTA members explained their differences with the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. The kidnappers also took advantage of the occasion to demand respect for the lives of members of their group who had been arrested in Paucartambo (Cuzco) the previous November 27. The journalists were later released.
