Capture of Abimael Guzmán and Peace Negotiations
In September 1992, Abimael Guzmán, the leader of the Shining Path (PCP-SL), was captured. Following his capture, Guzmán requested peace negotiations with the government of President Alberto Fujimori, signaling a potential end to the internal armed conflict in Peru. This marked a significant shift in the dynamics of the conflict, as Guzmán urged his followers to cease military actions.
En septiembre de 1992, el conflicto armado interno experimentó un cambio inesperado con la captura de Abimael Guzmán, líder del PCP-SL. Tras su detención, Guzmán solicitó al presidente Alberto Fujimori iniciar conversaciones que condujeran a la firma de un Acuerdo de Paz. Simultáneamente, pidió a sus seguidores que cesaran las acciones militares. Esta solicitud de negociación generó una división dentro del PCP-SL entre los «Acuerdistas» (que apoyaban las conversaciones) y los «Proseguir» (liderados por Oscar Ramírez Durán, que se opusieron).
