Capture of Abimael Guzmán and Reorganization of PCP-SL
In 1992, Abimael Guzmán, the leader of the Shining Path (PCP-SL), was captured along with a significant portion of the group's leadership. This event led to the seizure of important party materials and computers, causing the PCP-SL to urgently reorganize to mitigate further damage. Despite efforts to regroup, the organization faced continued setbacks, leading to a decline in their activities.
Tras el golpe de Estado, el PCP-SL intentó demostrar su fortaleza con ofensivas en el país, pero no logró ejecutar la anunciada gran ofensiva por el V Centenario. La captura de Abimael Guzmán y parte importante de la dirección senderista fue acompañada de la pérdida de computadoras y material partidario debido a problemas de seguridad. Oscar Ramírez Durand reorganizó la dirección con los cuadros que permanecían libres, aunque durante los años siguientes continuaron los reveses y disminuyeron significativamente las acciones, quedando solo dos bolsones en el alto Huallaga y el valle del Río Ene.
