Confrontation between MRTA and Peruvian Army in Molinos
On 28 April 1989, a confrontation occurred between the Peruvian Army and a column of MRTA subversives in the district of Molinos, Jauja. The MRTA forces, which were attempting to join another column to take the city of Tarma, were nearly annihilated by the army. This defeat halted the MRTA's advance in the central jungle region and allowed for the expansion of the PCP Sendero Luminoso.
Dos columnas del MRTA, procedentes de la zona de Satipo-Chanchamayo y del Tulumayo en Junín, se encontraban en desplazamiento hacia la sierra con el objetivo conjunto de tomar la ciudad de Tarma. El 28 de abril de 1989 ambas columnas se enfrentaron con fuerzas del Ejército Peruano en el distrito de Molinos, Jauja, resultando prácticamente aniquiladas en el combate. Este enfrentamiento detuvo significativamente el avance del MRTA en la selva central y permitió la expansión posterior del PCP Sendero Luminoso en la región.
