Assassination of María Elena Moyano
On February 14, 1992, María Elena Moyano, a prominent community leader and president of the Federation of Women of Villa El Salvador, was assassinated by the Shining Path (PCP-SL) during a period of heightened violence in the area. The assassination occurred on the same day the Shining Path had called for an armed strike, and Moyano had organized a March for Peace in opposition to their actions. Her death marked a significant moment in the struggle against the Shining Path's influence in local communities.
