Creation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Peru
On November 13, 2001, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Peru (CVR) began the task of collecting testimonies from victims, their families, or witnesses of human rights violations and violence that occurred in the country between 1980 and 2000. By the end of its mandate, the CVR had recorded 16,917 testimonies representing 18,217 declarants, with 61% being direct relatives of Peruvians who were killed or disappeared during that period.
