Assassination of David Ballón Vera by MRTA
On February 23, 1993, members of the MRTA assassinated David Ballón Vera, a mining businessman, after he was kidnapped on September 11, 1992, in San Miguel, Lima. The assassination occurred due to a failure to reach an agreement on the ransom amount. This incident marked the first time the MRTA killed a kidnapped victim.
David Ballón Vera, empresario minero, fue secuestrado en la vía pública en el distrito de San Miguel (Lima) el 11 de septiembre de 1992 por miembros del MRTA. Tras no llegarse a un acuerdo sobre la suma a pagar por el rescate, fue asesinado el 23 de febrero. Se trataba del primer secuestrado del MRTA que posteriormente fue asesinado.
