Armed Confrontation between the Peruvian Army and MRTA
On April 28, 1989, an armed confrontation occurred in Jauja, Peru, between the Peruvian Army and the MRTA (Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement). The clash resulted in the deaths of several army personnel, including Lieutenant Johnny Morales Rodríguez and others. The incident also left twenty-six soldiers injured, with some evacuated to the Hospital Militar Central for specialized treatment. The confrontation led to the seizure of various weapons from the MRTA.
El 28 de abril de 1989, a las 3:30 de la tarde, ocurrió un enfrentamiento armado en Jauja entre efectivos del Ejército peruano y miembros del MRTA. Según el Comunicado Oficial N° 008 DIR/ZSNC, cinco militares fallecieron en el combate: Tnte. Jhonnny Morales Rodríguez, Sgto. 2do. Huaranga Camavilca, Sgto. 2do. Yuri Portocarrero Puty, Sgto. 2do. Choque Enriquez y Cabo Rivera Flores. Además, veintiséis efectivos de tropa resultaron heridos, siendo veintiuno evacuados al Hospital Militar Central para tratamiento especializado. Se incautó armamento de la columna emerretista, incluyendo 47 fusiles automáticos ligeros, pistolas ametralladoras y munición.
