Detention and Torture of a Woman in Ayacucho
In April 1985, a 19-year-old woman was detained by the Peruvian Army and taken to the Base of Pampa Cangallo in Ayacucho. She was accused of being affiliated with Shining Path (SL) and subjected to physical torture, including beatings with firearms and kicks. The woman was also sexually assaulted by a commander, who threatened her with harm to her and her family if she reported the abuse.
Una declarante fue detenida en abril de 1985 a los 19 años por integrantes del Ejército y conducida a la Base de Pampa Cangallo en Ayacucho, donde fue acusada de pertenecer a Sendero Luminoso y torturada con golpes en cabeza, cara y cuerpo, siendo además violada por un comandante. Fue detenida nuevamente en agosto de 1985 y trasladada a la Base de Huamanga, donde fue desnudada, amarrada y sometida a tortura con agua durante varios minutos. En 1986 fue detenida por tercera vez y nuevamente violada por el mismo comandante, quien la acosaba sistemáticamente con amenazas y violencia. Como consecuencia de los abusos, la víctima quedó embarazada y debió someterse a un aborto que casi le cuesta la vida.
