Assassination of Luis Aguilar Cajahuamán

In May 1985, shortly after the electoral victory of the APRA party, Luis Aguilar Cajahuamán, an elected deputy and serving mayor from Pasco, was assassinated. This series of assassinations signified the Shining Path's declaration of war against the APRA government, rejecting any possibility of dialogue for peace.
