Student Elections at La Cantuta University
In September 1987, student elections were held at La Cantuta University amidst a climate of instability and violence. The elections saw the victory of the Izquierda Unida list, an alliance between VER, PUM, and MUR, over other competing lists, including those backed by Patria Roja and the Frente Estudiantil Democrático Revolucionario (FEDR). The elections were marked by tensions, with the PCP-SL calling for a boycott and the involvement of the MRTA through the FEDR.
En 1984, el movimiento estudiantil de La Cantuta se movilizó masivamente contra la ley Alayza-Sánchez. Con la implementación de esta ley se disolvieron programas académicos y se eligieron nuevas autoridades, siendo elegido rector el profesor Milciades Hidalgo en 1985. Se consolidó la presencia de Patria Roja en estructuras estudiantiles, ganando las elecciones de la FEUNE y Centros Federados. En septiembre de 1987 se realizaron nuevas elecciones en clima de inestabilidad y violencia, con el boicot del PCP-SL y participación del MRTA a través del FEDR, resultando ganadora la alianza de Izquierda Unida constituida por VER, PUM y MUR.
