Massacres and Human Rights Violations in Sillapata and Oronqoy
In 1986, an informant reported that in Sillapata, near the Pampas River, 60 women were brutally murdered by being lined up in columns. Additionally, 120 women hiding in the puna were thrown into the void from Sonqo María. In Oronqoy, 120 people, including men, women, and children, were locked in a house and burned alive. These extrajudicial killings and abuses led the local population to report the crimes to the military base in Andahuaylas, prompting a shift in military strategy and the rescue of 1215 people from various locations.
