Assassination of Porfirio Suni

Porfirio Suni, a SUTEP teacher, was assassinated on May 13, 1991 in Pucará, Puno, during the repression of the May 1991 teachers' strike. His death was part of a wave of violence that left 14 teachers murdered and 20 disappeared.

Porfirio Suni was a teacher member of the Single Union of Education Workers of Peru (SUTEP) murdered in the province of Pucará, Puno, on May 13, 1991. His death occurred in the context of the repression of the teachers' strike that began on May 8, 1991. This strike resulted in the temporary arrest of 2,000 teachers, twenty disappearances and 14 murders. Days after the assassination of Porfirio Suni, on May 24, 1991, two other teachers were also assassinated in the same province: Pablo Mamani Marchena and Germán Macedo.
