Attack on the Convent of the Carmelites
In 1981, the convent of the Carmelites in Ayacucho, Peru, was attacked amidst the violence affecting the region. Sendero Luminoso (SL) considered it not yet the time to attack the church directly, but in areas under their control, they rejected the church's work and imposed restrictions on religious activities. This event marked a period of tension and hostility towards religious institutions in the region.
En 1981, Sendero Luminoso perpetró un atentado contra el convento de las Carmelitas en Ayacucho. Tras este ataque, SL consideró que no era aún el momento de atacar directamente a la Iglesia, pero en las zonas que controlaba rechazaba el trabajo eclesiástico, como catequesis y confesión, además de prohibir a la población recibir ayuda alimentaria y rechazar a los agentes pastorales extranjeros.
